About the author

I have watched and recorded birds since childhood, taking part in numerous BTO surveys and I have recorded dragonflies across Dumfries & Galloway since 1993. With my husband Richard / Rick (a retired research ornithologist and countryside ranger) I record butterflies and moths. Most winters I give talks for the Scottish Bird Club, Scottish Wildlife Trust or other groups. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm!

For twenty years, from 1997 – 2017, I worked for A Rocha International, a Christian nature conservation organisation which began in 1983. For the Christian, Jesus is Lord of all creation, so following him should involve caring for his world. When I began, A Rocha was just one field study centre and bird observatory in Portugal. By the time I retired, we were involving communities in nature conservation  in 20 countries, so my roles changed, but were mostly in editing and administration.

In the 1980s, Richard and I co-wrote three books on the lives of early naturalists.
